<p>This is a basic tutorial of how to create a<strong> Brushed Aluminium Effect</strong> in<strong> Photoshop.<br />
</strong>The effect in this tutorial would fit great into the background of a site, for using to create an attractive signature for your forum posts, anything you can really think of. Please feel free to leave your comments on the tutorial as it will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.</p>
<p><span id="more-42"></span></p>
<p>Ok, so start off by creating a New Blank Document by going to<strong> File &gt; New&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/new-document-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Create a New Document with these settings" /></p>
<p>Next, change the <strong>foreground colour</strong> to <strong>#CECECE</strong> as seen in the screenshot below:</p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/foreground-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Change the foreground colour to #CECECE" /></p>
<p>Next we&#8217;re going to add an effect to the page called noise. To do this, from the menu bar Click <strong>Filter &gt; Noise &gt; Add Noise&#8230;</strong> and use the settings as shown in the picture below:</p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/noise-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Apply the Noise Effect" /></p>
<p>Now Go to the menu bar again, and this time we&#8217;re going to blur the photo, to do this click <strong>Filter &gt; Blur &gt; Motion Blur&#8230;</strong>. See diagram Below:</p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/blur-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Motion Blur Effect settings" /></p>
<p>We will now <strong>Crop</strong> the image to get rid the sides where the image didn&#8217;t quiet blur properly. See screenshot Below:</p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/crop-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Crop the sides of the image." /></p>
<p>Now to give the image a finishing touch, we will add a gradient to it. To do this, we must first turn the background layer into an editable layer. Right click on <strong>background</strong> in the<strong> layers</strong> tab to the left, and select <strong>Layer From Background&#8230;</strong></p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/layer-from-back.jpg" alt="Turn background into layer" /></p>
<p>Now proceed to add a gradient by right clicking the new layer, and selecting <strong>Blending Options</strong>. Make your gradient look similar to the 1 in the screenshot below:</p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/grad-pallete-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Gradient should go from grey to white to grey" /></p>
<p>Make the style of the gradient as shown below:</p>
<p><img src="http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/grad-style-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Style of the gradient for the brushed aluminum" /></p>
<p>Click Ok and your Brushed Aluminium should look like this 1 here. The finished product.<br />
<img src=" http://www.elliottj.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/finished-alu-tut.jpg" alt="Finished - Brushed Aluminium Effect with Photoshop" /></p>
<p>If so, <strong>congratulations</strong>, you now know how to make brushed aluminium with photoshop. If not&#8230; Please review the tutorial again and make sure you have done as I have done.</p>
<p>Thanks for reading!</p>
